6 Signs Your Child Have Problems With Their Feet

Foot and ankle issues are not simply a concern for adults; children’s legs and feet are also prone to injuries, abnormalities, and other issues. However, in kids, the signs may be modest and go unnoticed, potentially leading to more severe issues in the future. Therefore, it is advisable to visit a Scottsdale pediatric foot care specialist to ensure your child’s feet grow correctly.

Here are warning signs you should keep an eye out for to help identify any foot or ankle issues early:

Table of Contents

  • 1. They complain of stiffness and soreness in their feet
    • 2. They have stopped participating in sports and other hobbies they used to like
    • 3. They are not keeping up with their friends during play
    • 4. Your child trips and falls frequently
    • 5. Your child is hiding their feet
  • 6. They change their walking style.

1. They complain of stiffness and soreness in their feet

It is unusual for kids to have foot discomfort. If your child has strained their feet during sports or everyday activities, use the RICE approach (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) to soothe the foot. If the pain persists after a few days, please get in touch with a pediatric foot care clinic so that they may examine your child’s feet for any underlying issues.

2. They have stopped participating in sports and other hobbies they used to like

Repetitive strain might cause pain in the heel or beneath the foot, causing your youngster to withdraw from usual activities. This pain will not go away on its own; your child will need physical treatment and some rest at home to get their foot back to good health.

3. They are not keeping up with their friends during play

If you notice your child runs slower than their friends, this could signify they have a foot problem. Your child’s feet and legs may get more tired than usual if they have any tension beneath their feet, forefoot pain, heel discomfort,  or flat feet, hindering them from keeping up with their peers during games or playtime.

4. Your child trips and falls frequently

Although youngsters slip and fall often, the reason for their falls is critical. For example, tripping over a tree’s root might have a completely different reason than falling when walking or sprinting. While stumbling over anything is expected, your child’s feet may be misaligned if they regularly fall for no apparent reason. Fortunately, tripping can typically be avoided by seeing a podiatrist and purchasing the appropriate footwear.

5. Your child is hiding their feet

If your child is trying to hide their feet from you, this is another sign that they have a foot problem. Often, your child may notice changes in their nails and skin before you see them. If they find it strange, they may attempt to hide it by always wearing socks when they are with you instead of seeking assistance.

6. They change their walking style.

You may have lately observed a change in your child’s stride or walking style. This might be due to pain in their legs or feet, forcing them to change their walking style to alleviate the discomfort. Therefore you need to visit a podiatrist immediately for a check-up and treatment.

If you observe the above signs in your child, there is no need to be worried. Most foot problems in children are treatable and cheap. If you notice any of the above signs in your child, contact Phoenician Foot & Ankle Specialists to book an appointment to learn more about your treatment options.
